The Daily Shed #1256 – I get asked quite often what sort of tools someone should buy for beginning woodworking. In almost every case, I recommend buying the cheapest tool you can find. You don’t know what tools are used for or what features are more important to you until you’ve used a version of that tool. So, why spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a tool that you aren’t familiar with? Buy the cheap stuff and see if you like using that type of tool. With a bit of use, you’ll soon learn what you like or don’t like about using a type of tool and you’ll be able to make a more informed decision on that next purchase.
